On Sunday 11th November, one of Beckfoot Thornton’s Year 11 students, Caitlyn, was cordially invited to take part in the service to mark the Centenary of the Armistice.
Caitlyn is involved in a voluntary organisation, Camouflage Crew, which is run by Lynne Cunningham, who also works very closely with our school.
This was an enormous privilege and an experience that Caitlyn will never forget. She visited the Tower of London and witnessed the candles that were lit to mark the centenary and also laid a wreath at the Cenotaph in Central London.
Moreover, Caitlyn was officially invited by HM’s Government to attend the Centenary Service at Westminster Abbey. Caitlyn was seated extremely close to the front and was within touching distance of the Royal Family as they entered Westminster Abbey.
All of us at Beckfoot Thornton and particularly within the Year 11 Pastoral Team, are so proud of Caitlyn’s achievements.
When asked about her experience, Caitlyn was extremely dignified and respectful and it is clear that this was a very moving day for her. Lastly, despite her extremely late finish in London on the Sunday, Caitlyn still managed to make it in to school on the Monday for her mock exams!
