Headteacher’s Blog 24/05/2019

Hello and welcome to my blog.

I am delighted to say that twenty five students from year 9 have successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award.  The students walked through Thornton on the Bronte way, Denholme, Wilsden and Goit Stock woods, before arriving at Blackhills campsite last weekend. Well done, your hard work has paid off!

Yesterday, Mr David Horn, Chief Executive Officer of the Beckfoot Trust, called in at Beckfoot Thornton to catch up on the events that have been going on recently.

Mr Horn and I had a walk around school and dropped into some interesting and engaging lessons. We met a few students along the way, all of whom were polite and courteous – a great example of how to behave around welcome visitors to our school!

Students in Year 8 held a bake sale yesterday, as part of their work with Just Give. An impressive amount of £106 was raised, all going to the MIND charity.

I was delighted to meet with parents and carers last night at our Year 9 Parents evening.  I hope that parents found the evening to be most useful, of course if you do have any further questions, please get in touch with the Year 9 team.

The exams will continue when we return after half-term. It is really important that your child continues to revise and keep their focus over the holidays.

I would like to extend my thanks to students that are observing Ramadhan, for their commitment to attending school and undertaking their studies as best they can during this challenging but rewarding period.

As my next blog will not be until 8th June, I would like to take this opportunity to say Eid Mubarak to our families that will be celebrating.

School will close today at the normal time today. I hope that you enjoy a peaceful, relaxing half-term break.

I look forward to seeing your child at school at 8.20am on Monday 3rd June.
