Headteacher’s Blog 14/06/2019

Welcome to my blog.

What a fantastic day we have had today. The weather this morning threatened to hamper our efforts but thankfully cleared into sunshine, just in time for our Year 11 leavers event, complete with BBQ, ice creams and music!

I would like to thank our Year 11 students for their hard work, particularly over the past few months in the run up to their exams. All the staff at Beckfoot Thornton hope that you enjoyed the leavers event. Whether you are going out into the big wide world, or pursuing your studies, we wish you every success!

We will of course see you on 22nd August for GCSE results day.

Elsewhere in school this week, 16 students attended our Beckfoot Trust Sports day, competing in a range of activities including, swimming, races, curling and Bocca. As soon as the results are published, I will update you on how they got on.
On Tuesday, 26 of our Year 7 students attended their final Junior Engineering Engagement Programme session. Students had to present their energy saving and recycling ideas to myself. I was thoroughly impressed with the suggestions made, so much so, that I hope to implement some of the ideas within the school!

Yesterday, it was lovely to meet with parents and carers of our Year 7 students. We had a great turn out and I hope that you found the evening most useful.

Today we welcomed a special guest, artist Naseem Darbey. Naseem has been working with our Year 7 Art Award students. The visit proved very useful.

I hope that the weather is kind to our students venturing out this weekend to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Practice expedition. I will update you further next week.

As you may be aware, Beckfoot Thornton has a new school meals catering service. As such, a select group of students have been chosen to attend a menu tasting session on Wednesday next week.

I am pleased to announce that from 24th June, our canteen will be open to students from the earlier time of 7.45am.
