Message from Mr Richardson, Headteacher – GCSE Results 2019

We are celebrating our best ever GCSE results at Beckfoot Thornton; our continued upward trend in results means increasing success for students with many poised to join our sixth form and take their studies to the next stage. The 9-4 Basics measure (English and maths) is up by 7% to 53% and the 9-4 in the EBacc subjects has risen from 18% to 27% and is above the 2018 national average. Most subjects have shown improvement this year, a testament to the fantastic work of our superb students and the dedication of our brilliant teaching team.

This spring we introduced Saturday School with the support of the Bradford Opportunity Area Partnership. The attainment of the students that attended these sessions had a real boost and now means they have the results needed for sixth form, or college, but more importantly they can feel extremely proud of their achievements. There are also some super results in Art, French, German and PE GCSEs and in Engineering and business BTECs.

There are some fabulous individual results across the full range of students at Beckfoot Thornton but in particular congratulations go to Adam (who achieved five grade 9s), Esha (three grade 9s) and Patrick (three grade 9s). We are delighted with the positive trend in outcomes and want to congratulate all students on their success; we are looking forward to welcoming so many of you back into the sixth form and we wish all of you taking up college places or apprenticeships the very best for the future.
