Headteacher’s Blog 25/09/2020

Welcome to my blog.

Well, we have had all the seasons in one week, or so it would appear! Glorious sunshine and high temperatures on Monday and Tuesday, and heavy rain and the odd bit of hail on Wednesday and Thursday. Hopefully, we are back to a bit of sunshine this weekend, although a bit cooler!

I am thrilled to tell you that Leo, a Year 10 student, has gained a scholarship with Leeds Rhinos! Leo started playing rugby aged 10, at Dudley Hill before moving to Birkenshaw.
Leo has also played for our school team.

Winning man of the match at the Yorkshire cup final appears to have drawn a bit of attention to Leo, with him receiving offers from Bradford Bulls and Huddersfield Giants, in addition to the offer from Leeds Rhinos.
Congratulations Leo, we are extremely proud of you and your achievements thus far. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for you!

Please be aware that unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions affecting residentials and social mixing, there will be a temporary pause in the DofE programme until 2021.
We will review this as soon as recommendations allow, with a focus to target those who have already enrolled on the programme. If you have any queries, please email Mr Fleming at jsf@beckfootthornton.org

We have had a fantastic start to our Year 11 Period 6 intervention sessions. Previous Year 11 students’ fed back that they found these free extra tuition sessions really helpful when it came to solidifying their understanding and revising for exams.

As I have said for the last two weeks, our students are doing so well at staying in their bubbles, wearing their coloured badges and having their face coverings on them when required around school.
Please ensure that your child brings their face covering with them daily and that if it becomes damaged, it is replaced as soon as possible.

Their face covering needs to be as important to them as their mobile phone is and as such, if they wouldn’t forget to bring their phone, they shouldn’t forget to bring their face covering. Face coverings are part of the uniform for all students, unless you have contacted school to advise us of individual circumstances that mean your child is exempt.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
Have a lovely weekend.
