A student following an Academic Level 3 route studies three A Levels or two A Levels and a BTEC Level 3. The Academic Level 3 route is available to students who achieve high grades in Key Stage 4, preferably including English and maths. Any student not achieving grade C or above in English and maths in England by the end of Key Stage 4 is required to study that/those subjects at post-16 until they reach this standard. All students also follow a bespoke enrichment programme.

New Linear A Levels
A Level reform began in 2015 and continues with most courses changing to linear assessments for courses beginning in 2016. This means that you will be externally assessed at the end of two years.
By selecting a Level 3 academic route you will be committing to studying each of three courses for two years. Except in exceptional circumstances, you will not “drop” any subject once you begin the two year programme. Your teachers will measure your progress throughout the two years and give you advice on how to improve at each stage. It may be that in some cases, you are entered for an AS qualification during Year 12.

This is a change from the previous model of studying four AS courses in Year 12 followed by three A2 courses in Year 13.

A student who follows a Vocational Level 3 route studies BTECs or BTECs with one A Level. The Vocational Level 3 route is available to students who achieve high grades in Key Stage 4, preferably including English and maths. Any student not achieving grade C or above in English and maths in England by the end of Key Stage 4 is required to study that/those subjects at post 16 until they reach this standard. All students also follow a bespoke enrichment programme.

By selecting a Level 3 vocational route you will be committing to studying each of your courses for two years. Except in exceptional circumstances, you will not “drop” any subject once you begin the two year programme. Your teachers will measure your progress throughout the two years and give you advice on how to improve at each stage.

These courses are available to students who aspire to moving onto Level 3 courses at the end of Year 11 but do not quite have the grades required. By successfully completing a Level 2 Vocational Programme at Merit or Distinction in Year 12 whilst studying English and maths if you have not achieved a Grade C or above in Key Stage 4, you could progress onto a two year Level 3 Vocational Programme in Year 13 and 14 linked to your Level 2 qualifications.

You cannot select a course that you have studied previously (with the exception of English and maths that you must study if you have not achieved at grade C or above).

Please note that not all these courses may run, it will depend upon the interest expressed during the application process and the Level 3 may not be offered the next year.

Entry requirements for access courses are 3A*-C GCSEs.
