Beckfoot Thornton works with Prospects to give your child careers information, advice and guidance. The Personal Adviser's for our school are Akeel Hussain and Julie Wood. Akeel and Julie are based in school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the careers office in the library. The majority of their time is spent interviewing Y11 students to help them with their career plans for after Y11 – whether it be Sixth form, College or an Apprenticeship. They also see a number of younger students, 6th form students and undertake group sessions.
Although Akeel and Julie send out invites to students, they can also ask to be seen by completing a 'Request for Careers Information' slip available in their Form room or the Careers corner in the Library.
It is particularly important that any Yr11 thinking of leaving after GCSEs to do an Apprenticeship sees the Careers advisors as soon as possible. Prospects can help match students to vacancies, but only if the Personal Adviser is aware that they are looking for work. It is also advisable that any student in this situation registers with the National Apprenticeship website –
If you, as parents/guardians, wish to attend your child’s careers interview, discuss concerns or request information, Akeel and Julie can be contacted at school on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
All students can complete the careers survey. Students can click here to take the survey, which will then be forwarded to the careers adviser in school.
