We want you to be someone who is excited for what their future could hold and knows how to get ready for it!
Since September (and particularly this cycle), students at Beckfoot Thornton have taken part in a wide range of careers events and visits designed to ensure they are truly Future Ready. These experiences are helping students explore their aspirations and gain a clearer understanding of the pathways available to them.
Year 11 Following assemblies earlier in the year, many Year 11 students are now receiving interview invitations and offers from post-16 providers. We are proud of their proactive approach in keeping options open and securing multiple pathways. One-to-one careers guidance appointments are continuing to ensure every student feels supported and confident in their next steps. Students considering apprenticeships are encouraged to search via the government website and local employer sites.
Year 10 Year 10 students are focusing on Employability Skills in their Thursday Careers sessions, developing key strengths such as confidence, teamwork and communication, and learning how these transferable skills apply to interviews and the workplace.
They have also participated in workshops delivered by Luminate Education Group (including Keighley College and Leeds College), helping them understand post-16 life and available support. Additional sessions included an apprenticeship workshop with Northern Powergrid and Ahead Partnership, focusing on CV writing and hearing from current apprentices, as well as a Youth Engagement workshop with the Royal Navy, where students developed teamwork and communication skills through practical activities.
Year 9 As the GCSE options deadline approaches, Year 9 students have been supported in making informed subject choices linked to future careers and post-16 pathways. They have explored opportunities using Unifrog and met representatives from New College Bradford, Bradford College and Keighley College during Options Evening, helping them understand how GCSE choices connect to future courses and careers.
