Welcome to my blog page. Here you can find out a bit more information about what is happening at Beckfoot Thornton.
As the end of this half term draws to a close, I would like to share some of the amazing events our students have been involved in this week. Our students have remained focused and carried on working hard, not letting the fast approaching holiday impact upon their performance. Their determination and drive is exemplary!
On Wednesday, 60 of our Year 7 and 8 students had the opportunity to take part in a workshop in conjunction with Dell. Students made their way to Bradford University, listened as technologies and their uses were explained, and explored and discussed future ideas and uses for technology not yet created. Staff from the Transformation Trust commented on the fantastic behaviour and work ethic of our students, stating they were one of the best groups they and worked with. Overall the day was a great success. As they were leaving one Year 7 student said “that has made me want to work harder now, so I can be successful and come here’.
A number of students from Year 8 and 9 were involved in a Workshop 'Of Real Worlds' on Wednesday, which was organised by the South Square Arts Centre.
The students drew on Emily Brontë's ‘tremendous themes and minute observations’ of the natural landscape, in order to create visual poems.
Rather excitingly, the students’ work will be projected onto the outside of the South Square Arts Centre in Thornton, on Friday 1st June between 6.00-10.00pm. This is just fantastic!
On Thursday, a team of our Year 13 physicists attended a problem solving competition at Bradford Grammar School. There were some really difficult tasks and quite intense time pressures.
Our team won the competition! We are very proud of our students.
Our exam series is well under way with mocks, GCSE’s and A-Level exams taking place. The behaviour and attitude of students taking exams has been excellent. I would like to see this positive behaviour and attitude continue after half term.
I hope that everyone enjoys a peaceful half term break.
I look forward to seeing your children on Monday 4th June, prepared and determined for the final push to the end of the summer term.
