Assessment
Assessment at Beckfoot Thornton
To support students in knowing and remembering more at Beckfoot Thornton, assessments are designed to:
- Assist teachers in planning by identifying gaps so teaching can be adapted and interventions identified – assessments are diagnostic
- Provide students with feedback that they can act upon so they can know more and remember more
- Provide information for parents or carers on students’ progress and their learning

Our curriculum is designed to help students to know and remember the key knowledge that they are taught so that they are fully prepared for their next stage and national assessments at the end of KS4 and P16.
Our formative assessments are carefully planned and include the cumulative knowledge taught in KS3, KS4 or P16.
Students are provided with knowledge organisers at the start of each term, and taught study skills to help support the use of them independently. Knowledge organisers can also be found on our website (insert link)
Prior to a calendared assessment periods, parents/carers will be sent an assessment newsletter which will inform them of the topics to be assessed to allow them to support their child in fully preparing. (include links to newsletters)
Feedback from assessments, activities in class and homework allows our teachers to plan carefully to close any gaps, plan intervention when needed and develop students’ communications skills at all levels. Information from key assessment points will also be shared with parents/carers.
